St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago. September 14, 2023- After a three-year hiatus caused by the global disruption brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, The University of the West Indies (The UWI) St. Augustine Campus is thrilled to announce the much-anticipated return of The UWI SPEC International Half-Marathon organised by The St. Augustine Academy for Sport. Registration is now open for the event scheduled to take place on Sunday, November 19th, 2023. Adding a new dimension to this year's edition is the introduction of a 5K race, which caters to a broader spectrum of individuals, enabling enthusiastic participation in a well-organized event.

Revered as one of the flagship events hosted by The UWI St. Augustine, the UWI SPEC International Half-Marathon has seen remarkable growth over the past sixteen years. What began in 2004 with just 300 participants, has now evolved into an impressive gathering of 1600 runners in 2019, and anticipations are set even higher for this year's event.

The race will commence at 5:00 a.m. from The UWI Sport and Physical Education Centre (SPEC), with the established 13.1-mile route remaining unchanged. Runners will follow the unobstructed Priority Bus Route, starting from St. Augustine and leading to the La Resource Junction in D’Abadie, before retracing the same path. The 5K will begin at 5:15 a.m. on the same morning.

The UWI SPEC International Half-Marathon arranged by The St. Augustine Academy for Sport is pleased to collaborate with local sporting federations, the National Association of Athletics Administrations of Trinidad and Tobago (NAAATT) and the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee (TTOC). This partnership ensures local certification and accreditation by AIMS and World Athletics Locally, the NAAATT uses the event as its official half-marathon championship.
