ST AUGUSTINE, Trinidad & Tobago, September 27, 2023 – The UWI St. Augustine Campus proudly congratulates Professor Rose-Marie Belle Antoine, our esteemed Pro Vice-Chancellor Principal, on receiving the prestigious Inspirational Champion of Women Award from the International Women’s Forum T&T (IWFTT). On Tuesday 19th September 2023, Professor Antoine was presented with the award at IWFTT’s Inspirational Women Awards Gala at the Hyatt Regency, Port-of-Spain. This award recognizes Professor Antoine's exceptional dedication to advancing women's rights and addressing critical social issues. Her pioneering efforts, notably in founding the International Human Rights Clinic, exemplify the fusion of academia and activism for positive change.

From a young age, Professor Antoine’s role as an advocate began as she was always questioning - speaking out – challenging things, championing the underdog. Her impactful work transcends boundaries and has improved the lives of marginalized groups, including migrants, indigenous peoples, and advocates for gender justice. Further, her leadership and guiding philosophy have not only inspired colleagues and students but have also driven tangible societal transformations. Under her guidance, the International Human Rights Clinic has become a beacon of hope for those seeking justice and equality, shaping policies and initiatives regionally and internationally.

The Inspirational Champion of Women Award from the IWFTT underscores Professor Antoine's unwavering commitment to empowering women and her substantial contributions to the global conversation on social justice and equality. The UWI St. Augustine Campus celebrates this remarkable achievement with immense pride and admiration, extending heartfelt congratulations to Professor Rose-Marie Belle Antoine and best wishes for her continued positive impact on our community and the world.
