St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago. October 20, 2023 –The University of the West Indies (The UWI) St. Augustine Campus, is pleased to announce the winner of the 75th Anniversary Staff Art Competition, Mr. Johann Bennett, from the Department of Literary, Cultural and Communication Studies (DLCCS). Mr. Bennett's exceptional artwork, titled 'Rooted, Ready, Rising - Pelicans in Flight at Pigeon Point Sunset,' emerged as the winner of the competition, celebrating the institution's milestone anniversary. Mr. Bennett and Runners-up, Ms. Sian Ramdass and Mr. Lawrence Theodore were all presented with their winning prizes courtesy of Angostura Ltd. And The UWI, at a ceremony held on Thursday 28th September 2023 at the JFK Quadrangle, St. Augustine Campus.

Mr. Johann Bennett from the Department of Literary, Cultural and Communication Studies (DLCCS) with his winning piece entitled, "Rooted, Ready, Rising - Pelicans in Flight at Pigeon Point Sunset." The colours in the painting were meticulously chosen to represent different aspects of the university, including blue for trust and loyalty, red for passion and energy, yellow for happiness and optimism, and orange for enthusiasm and emotion. Mr. Bennett's work is now on display in the hallowed halls of the Office of the Campus Principal at The UWI, St. Augustine Campus, serving as a lasting tribute to the institution's rich history and promising future.
