UWI Celebrates Dr. Deirdre Charles for Her Outstanding Commitment to Youth Development

ST. AUGUSTINE, Trinidad and Tobago. May 23, 2024 – The University of the West Indies (The UWI) St. Augustine Campus joins the national community in celebrating the achievements of Dr. Deirdre Charles. As Director of the Division of Student Services and Development, Dr. Charles has been honoured with an honorary award from the Ministry of Youth Development and National Services’ 2024 Mentorship Programme.

This accolade acknowledges her exceptional dedication to our nation's youth, as demonstrated through her mentorship, guidance, and advisory roles. Her unwavering commitment to youth development has positively impacted the lives of many young people, offering them valuable support and direction during crucial stages of their growth.  Indeed, Dr. Charles is no stranger to giving her time to steer young people in the right direction with the highest display of professionalism and kindness. In her capacity as Director of the Division of Student Services and Development, staff and students alike witness Dr. Charles’ fervent dedication, hard work, and pride in the execution of her daily duties.

In acknowledging the award, Dr. Charles notes,

 “I am deeply honoured and humbled by this recognition… I am committed to continuing to serve with grace, excellence, and dedication to the purpose, not only to The UWI but also to Trinidad and Tobago. The optimism and encouragement shown has inspired me to strive for even greater achievements in the future.”

 Dr. Charles’s accomplishments are not only socially significant but also inspirational, and empowering. The University will continue to support her efforts and wishes her continued success in all her endeavours fostering local and regional development through her impact on the lives of many young people.
