The UWI Regional Headquarters, Jamaica. Wednesday, November 13, 2024—An upcoming edition of the series of UWI Vice-Chancellor Forums will focus on the recently concluded historic U.S. election.

The virtual forum, titled, The 2024 U.S. Elections: Results, Reactions and Repercussions, will take place on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. (AST/Eastern Caribbean), and will be streamed via the UWItv website, www.uwitv.global and social media platforms.

This event, a joint initiative of the Office of the Vice-Chancellor and the Department of Political Science at The UWI, St. Augustine Campus will feature a diverse selection of speakers from across the region and The UWI. They will provide expert analysis of the election results, reactions, and potential repercussions, especially concerning the Caribbean region, in the context of a second Trump presidency.

Interest in the election between Donald J. Trump and Kamala Harris intensified following the announcement of the results. Global citizens watched closely as analysts examined the implications for various issues, including race, class, gender, abortion, climate change, immigration, trade and investment, the American and global economy, U.S. foreign policy with respect to the Russia-Ukraine War, the Israel-Palestine conflict, and U.S. relations with China, India, Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

Vice-Chancellor of The UWI, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, will deliver the opening remarks and the forum will be chaired and moderated by Dr. Indira Rampersad, Head and Lecturer of Political Science/International Relations in the Department of Political Science at The UWI, St. Augustine.

According to Dr. Rampersad, “I anticipate that the panellists' presentations and the question-and-answer engagement with the live audience will provide insightful and balanced perspectives on some of the more controversial issues surrounding this historic U.S. election.”

The multi-disciplinary panel of experts will include: Professor Hamid Ghany, Honorary Professor, Constitutional Affairs and Parliamentary Studies, SALISES, The UWI, St. Augustine; Professor Sheron Fraser-Burgess, Lecturer, Social Foundations/Multicultural Education, Ball State University; Professor Christopher A.D.
