St. Augustine

St. Augustine, March 27, 2025 – The Department of Creative and Festival Arts (DCFA) at The University of the West Indies (The UWI) presents the 2025 annual student theatre production, On The Line, in collaboration with the award-winning Malick Folk Performing Company. This year's production takes centre stage at the Winnifred Atwell Auditorium, Queen's Hall, Port of Spain, for two nights, Friday, April 25, and Saturday, April 26, at 7 PM. A special school matinee will be held on Saturday, April 26, at 2 PM for school groups. The production is directed by nationally renowned actor and DCFA alumnus Michailean Taylor, with musical direction by Marva Newton.

“On the Line” creates space for critical conversations by examining the past and present through theatre.  At its core is “Eric the Musical” by Zeno Obi Constance, a biographical calypso musical on the life and contributions of Dr. Eric Williams, described by many as the father of modern Trinidad and Tobago. The Musical sets the stage for reflection on contemporary issues and is complemented by five bold, original 10-minute plays by students enrolled in the Production II course at the Department of Creative and Festival Arts, UWI.

Each script tackles pressing social themes. From the struggles of migration in “Nowhere to Call Home” by Tevin Douglas, to the sharp political satire of “D Parliament Up in Smokes” by Abigail Seaforth-Leslie, the pursuit of justice in “In Her Hands” by Brianna Worme, the complexities of cultural identity in “Where Two Worlds Meet” by Azaria Halls, and the commercialization of mas intertwined with self-discovery in “The Pieces of Me That Don’t Belong” by Nyssa Bailey, this production offers a rich tapestry of voices and perspectives.

By placing these works in conversation with each other, On the Line challenges audiences to reflect, engage, and interrogate the narratives that shape our society.

Tickets are priced at $100 for adults and $80 for students, while teachers and school groups attending the matinee can purchase tickets at $60 per person. Tickets are available at the DCFA, Gordon Street, St. Augustine, and the Queen’s Hall Box Office.
