St. Augustine
St Augustine, April 14, 2025- Undoubtedly, the next generation of artists challenge, question and reimagine the world through art. To highlight this, The University of the West Indies (The UWI), St. Augustine Visual Arts Unit at the Department of Creative and Festival Arts (DCFA) has partnered with the Art Society of Trinidad and Tobago (ASTT) to host a public exhibition of fine art by final-year students in the Visual Arts Degree programme. The exhibition runs from April 9 to April 19, 2025, at the ASTT’s gallery in Federation Park, Port of Spain.
The display showcases an impressive collection of artwork that reflects the current creative concerns of emerging artists as they transition into the wider artistic community. Over the duration of the ten-day exhibition, audiences can engage directly with thought-provoking pieces exploring a wide array of contemporary themes.
Additionally, visitors can expect a dynamic mix of painting, sculpture and other media that delve into subjects such as portrayals of femininity, physical trauma, loss, grief, desire, metaphorical consumption and obsession, Hinduism and the afterlife and the psychological impact of death.
The public is also invited to attend an Artist Talk session on Thursday, April 17, 2025, from 5–7pm at the ASTT. This engaging session offers a chance to hear from the artists themselves about their creative processes, the role of art in wellbeing and how artistic expression can foster a sense of community.
The exhibition marks the culmination of years of study in fine art and provides an essential platform for students to share their work, connect with wider audiences and spark meaningful dialogue.
The curators are Michelle Boyd and Nikolai Noel
