St. Augustine, May 6th 2025 – With the overall theme being, Prepare to Launch, the mission of The UWI's World of Work (WOW) programme is clear to hundreds of final year student-attendees: this is a necessary bridge that takes them from academic preparedness to World of Work (WOW) preparedness. A total of 41 companies across a variety of industries and led by main sponsor, Republic Bank Limited were in attendance.

The theme in full, for the 20th edition of the annual WOW programme was Mission World of Work: Prepare to Launch. Approximately 1300 students, both undergraduate and postgraduate from all eight faculties benefitted from the series of preparatory workshops and activities aimed at enhancing students’ approaches to career development. This was the last of three years with this theme and was held on Thursday 10 April, at the Centre of Excellence, Bougainvillea Hall, Macoya.
In welcome remarks, Deputy Principal, Professor Derek Chadee outlined the mission of the event. He said that it was a gathering purposed with transformation, connection, exploration and new beginnings. He added that, "it was not just a celebration of talent, but an acknowledgment of the boundless potential that resides within each student, the future leaders, innovators and professionals of tomorrow."
Kathy-Ann Lewis, Manager Careers, Co-Curricular and Community Engagement at the Division of Student Services and Development added that, "this fair provides them with a framework that supports their academic pursuits. It allows them to intentionally carve out a meaningful career path and work towards building the relevant skills and competencies to achieve their career goals. It also entails opportunities for them to articulate these plans to recruiters."
Dr Deirdre Charles, Director, Division of Student Services and Development gave a short history of the WOW programme in her remarks. She said that The UWI Republic Bank WOW programme started 30 plus years ago. Since then, under the Division of Student Services and Development, it has grown by leaps and bounds - both in numbers of attendees, businesses and the partnership between The UWI and the event's major sponsor, the Republic Bank of Trinidad and Tobago Limited.
