St. Augustine, May 26th 2025- In a stirring evening that blended inspiration, nostalgia and renewed purpose, The University of the West Indies (The UWI), St. Augustine Campus officially launched the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) Alumni Chapter on May 3rd 2025. The event, held at the UWI Social Sciences Lounge, was headlined by a moving segment titled “UWI Stories”, featuring deeply personal reflections from three accomplished FSS alumni:
· Nigel Edwards, Executive Director of the Unit Trust Corporation
· Ramon Gregorio, Managing Director of Lucent Research and President of the Greater Tunapuna Chamber of Industry and Commerce
· Dr. Gloria Edwards-Joseph, Human Resource Management Consultant
Each speaker took the audience on a journey through their formative years at UWI, offering heartfelt accounts of how the Faculty of Social Sciences helped shape their careers and character. Their testimonies underscored the profound and far-reaching impact of The UWI experience and the FSS Alumni Community, a legacy of leadership, resilience and service.
Dr. Acolla Lewis-Cameron, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) stated, “This chapter gives us the opportunity to develop meaningful connections with our alumni and to build a community of lifelong learners who are committed to the Faculty’s vision of being socially engaged and solutions oriented.”
Beyond the festivities, this launch marks the beginning of a renewed effort to foster stronger ties among alumni, support the development of current students, and enhance the visibility of the Faculty of Social Sciences through community and professional engagement.

The event also included interactive games, refreshments and live entertainment, creating a festive and welcoming atmosphere for alumni to reconnect and network. Several giveaways, including hampers from sponsors, Coca Cola and A.S. Bryden, added to the celebratory spirit of the evening.
