The UWI and Guardian Life of The Caribbean Limited Honour 25 Years of Educational Partnership in T&T

ST. AUGUSTINE, Trinidad and Tobago. June 26, 2025 – The University of the West Indies (The UWI), St. Augustine Campus and Guardian Life of The Caribbean Limited are proud to announce the celebration of their 25-year partnership dedicated to advancing education and fostering excellence in teaching and learning across the Caribbean

 A series of special events will mark this anniversary, culminating in the biennial UWI/Guardian Life Premium Open Lecture scheduled for 26th September 2025. This year’s lecture will feature Dr Thomas J. Tobin, renowned expert in educational accessibility who will present on "From Barriers to Bridges: Teaching and Learning for All."

 “This partnership between The UWI and Guardian Life of The Caribbean exemplifies how strategic, long-term collaboration can elevate educational standards across the region. Together, we have helped shape a future where teaching and learning are more inclusive, accessible and impactful, not only for our university but for Caribbean society as a whole,” said Professor Rose-Marie Belle Antoine, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Campus Principal at The UWI St. Augustine Campus.

 This year marks the 25th year of supporting The UWI/Guardian Life Premium Open Lecture which reflects Guardian Life’s deep commitment to education and inclusive learning. We are proud to have partnered with The UWI in advancing knowledge and creating a path for continued learning and academic development, added Guardian Life’s President, Ms. Samanta Saugh.

The anniversary celebrations will include:

 ·        An online quiz competition with prizes, inviting participants to test their knowledge about the history and achievements of The UWI/Guardian Life partnership.

·        A commemorative video featuring messages from key stakeholders and beneficiaries of programmes supported by this partnership.

·        Special digital media content highlighting the partnership’s impact over the past 25 years.

·        The prestigious Premium Open Lecture, with Dr Tobin exploring transformative approaches to inclusive education.

 The UWI/Guardian Life partnership, established in 2000, is a longstanding and celebrated collaboration dedicated to advancing effective teaching and learning across the Caribbean. The partnership was created to facilitate the exchange of research and ideas from regional and international experts on issues promoting effective teaching and learning. The Premium Open Lecture consistently attracts a wide range of attendees, including university lecturers, public and private school teachers, students, educational administrators, leaders,  and other stakeholders.
