Keeping Campus Safe: The UWI St. Augustine Enforces Vehicle Controls

St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago – September 8th, 2025 The University of the West Indies (The UWI), St. Augustine Campus, continues its commitment to campus safety with reinforced No Thoroughfare Zone measures, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance campus safety and ensure the well-being of students, staff, and visitors.

Effective immediately, vehicular access to the campus will be as follows:

  • Authorised Vehicles: Only vehicles displaying valid 2025/2026 UWI vehicle permits will be allowed entry via the North Gate entrance (adjacent to Republic Bank) or the South Gate entrance (closest to Churchill Roosevelt Highway).
  • Unauthorised Vehicles: Vehicles without the current permits will be redirected to the Visitor’s Entrance (The Daaga Gate on St. Augustine Circular Road, opposite Freedom Hall), where stringent security screening will be conducted. Entry through this gate will be allowed Monday to Friday from 7:00 am to 9:30 am.
  • Traffic Flow Adjustment: To further facilitate safe movement, a one-way traffic system will be in effect on the section of Lewis Avenue between the Daaga Gate and the northern junction with Wooding Drive (opposite the tennis courts), Monday to Friday from 7:00 am to 9:30 am, with traffic flowing east to west.

The UWI encourages all staff, students, and visitors to familiarise themselves with these regulations and plan their travel accordingly. These initiatives underscore The UWI’s commitment to fostering a secure campus environment while ensuring smooth access for authorised personnel.
