St. Augustine

St. Augustine, Trinidad and TobagoOctober 17, 2025 – The University of the West Indies (The UWI), St. Augustine Campus, Faculty of Humanities and Education, Department of Creative and Festival Arts (DCFA), Visual Arts Unit, cordially invites the public to attend IN LIGHT, a Divali Thematic Art Exhibition, this evening, Friday 17 October 2025 at 6:00 p.m. at the DCFA, Gordon Street, St. Augustine.

This exhibition features the creative works of The UWI Visual Arts students presented alongside music, dance and theatrical performances. IN LIGHT will offer audiences a multi-dimensional artistic experience that reflects the symbolism of Divali. The showcase aims to spark contemplation on rituals, divinity, ancestral relationships, performance, identity and representation through multiple forms of creative expression.

The production provides a visual and performative explication of material that emerges from studying the contemporary through a lens of the past. It highlights a broad range of expressive practices including drawing, painting, design, mehndi and rangoli. The exhibition is positioned as a manifestation of the dialogue between the individual and the wider society, explored through artistic interpretation of Divali traditions.

IN LIGHT is another creative presentation produced as part of the DCFA’s Legacy Year Celebrations, which commemorate significant milestones in the department’s contribution to the cultural and artistic landscape of Trinidad and Tobago.

Admission is free and members of the public are warmly invited to share in this evening of art and performance.
