St. Augustine
St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago - April 20, 2026 - On Thursday 12th March 2026, Sanch Electronix donated a collection of multimedia to the Alma Jordan Library at The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus. The donated materials represent a curated subset of Sanch Electronix’s music catalogue, reflecting a rich cross-section of Trinidad and Tobago’s musical heritage. Dr Shamin Renwick, Acting Campus Librarian, formally accepted the donation on behalf of the Library from Mr Simeon Sandiford, Founder and Managing Director of Sanch Electronix. The collection includes notable works by the Lydians and Signal Hill choirs, Felix Roach, as well as recordings from local calypsonians and steel bands.
This contribution significantly enhances the Library’s special collections by strengthening its audiovisual holdings of indigenous music, an area that remains underrepresented in formal academic archives. By incorporating these recordings into its catalogue, the Alma Jordan Library advances its mandate to preserve, document and provide access to Caribbean cultural expressions for research, teaching, and public engagement. The donation not only safeguards these works for future generations but also supports scholarly inquiry into the evolution of local music traditions, performance practices and national identity.
