UWI St. Augustine Campus Enforces ‘No Thoroughfare’ Policy

ST. AUGUSTINE, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO - 16 September 2026 - The University of the West Indies (The UWI) St. Augustine Campus has enforced its  ‘No Thoroughfare Zone’ Policy from Monday, September 14, 2026 as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen traffic management and enhance safety and security for all Campus users.

From Mondays to Fridays, excluding public holidays, vehicles displaying valid 2026/2027 UWI Vehicle Permits may enter the Campus via the North Gate, near Republic Bank, or the South Gate, closest to the Churchill Roosevelt Highway. 

Vehicles without valid 2026/2027 UWI Vehicle Permits will be redirected to the Visitors’ Entrance (Daaga Gate) on St. Augustine Circular Road, opposite Freedom Hall, where more stringent security screening will be in effect before access to the Campus is granted. 

Motorists are reminded that a 30-kilometre-per-hour speed limit is in effect across the Campus and must be observed at all times. 

Drivers are also reminded to obey all traffic signs and road markings while travelling on Campus, with particular attention to pedestrian crossings. Motorists are required to stop and give way to pedestrians at designated crossings. 

Motorists are encouraged to adjust their speed to prevailing weather and environmental conditions. Factors such as weather, lighting, visibility, pedestrian activity and the presence of other vehicles should be taken into consideration. Drivers should maintain a speed that allows them to stop, manoeuvre or respond safely to potential hazards. All motorists are further reminded to follow the guidance and instructions of members of the Campus Security team. 

The No Thoroughfare Zone will be strictly enforced to strengthen the control and monitoring of individuals and vehicles accessing the Campus and to further enhance safety and security for all Campus users. 

Members of the general public who have traditionally used Campus roads as a thoroughfare are encouraged to use alternative routes during the designated period.
