Curbing the Involvement of Youths in Crime

As the number of youths involved in criminal activities continues to rise, a public lecture geared towards developing practical solutions for curbing crime was held on Tuesday 5th May, at the Port-of-Spain City Hall Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. The lecture was the latest in a public lecture series hosted by The University of the West Indies entitled “Conversations with our Society”. The last installment focused on crime in Trinidad and Tobago. Dr. Daphne Phillip, one of the key speakers at this delivered a presentation entitled “Youth and Crime in Schools: Let’s talk solutions”. “Crime, Civil Society and Development in Trinidad and Tobago” was another topic that was spearheaded by Mr. Nathan Pino.

The public lecture initiative is intended to involve members of the public in panel discussions where practical solutions to relevant issued may be raised. The panel discussion series will run up to Wednesday 10th June, 2009, and will delve into a variety of relevant societal issues including health, crime, poverty, education and socio-economic concerns.
