The Council at its annual business meeting held recently at the St Augustine Campus accepted the recommendation of a Select Committee of Council to renew Professor Harris’ contract based on a very favourable appraisal of his performance. Highlights of his achievements during his first term as Vice-Chancellor include the introduction of the Open Campus, a much more inclusive approach to strategic planning and several administrative reforms, such as a comprehensive review of the University’s admissions and examinations procedures, the reorganisation of graduate studies, the introduction of the UWI Consulting Company and transformational initiatives in the areas of alumni relations, communications and marketing. The year-long celebration of the institution’s sixtieth anniversary in 2008 was also a highlight of his first term.
