Over 300 students are set to benefit from scholarships awarded by The University of The West Indies (UWI), St. Augustine Campus. Every academic year, the university offers students the opportunity to apply for scholarships and bursaries. Applicants satisfying the stipulated criteria are awarded scholarships on a competitive basis. For the academic year 2008/2009 the university awarded 219 scholarships and bursaries, and renewed fourteen awards.
Scholarships are provided not only by the university, but courtesy a variety of corporate sponsors. Usually sponsors offer bursaries for individual pursuing degrees in their specific academic area of study. Over forty agencies stepped up to the plate and offered to assist students on the basis of either need or merit. Corporate sponsors include Desalcott, the Teacher’s Credit Union, National Gas Company, Scotiabank, Atlantic LNG and Methanex Trinidad Ltd.
