For Release Upon Receipt - November 16, 2009
St. Augustine
The 6th annual Kaiso Dialogues hosted by the Carnival Studies Unit, Department of Creative and Festival Arts, UWI, will be held on Monday November 23, 2009 at 7:00pm at the Staff Social Club, The University of the West Indies, Agostini Street, St. Augustine.
The event seeks to laud the work of outstanding artists in the genres of Calypso, Chutney, Soca, Extempo and Rapso. Awardees for 2009 are Leston Paul, Austin Lyons (Super Blue) and the late Sunilal Popo Bahora (Sundar Popo). Before a live audience, there will be an engaging discussion between artists and moderators about their lives and work in their respective genres. At the end of the discussion, artists will be awarded for their outstanding contribution to their respective genres by the Department of Creative and Festival Arts, UWI; and mingle with guests in a cocktail reception that follows.
Kaiso Dialogues serves as a bridge between the artist and society as it is a forum for the public to learn about the artists’ lives and experiences outside of the performing environment. It is also an important outreach initiative, as it facilitates the University to showcase contributions of the artists in the music industry.
The public is invited to this event. Tickets are $180. For further information please contact the Creative Arts office – Telephone 663-2222 (direct line) or 662-2002 ext 3791/3792/3793 or email Jo-anne.Tull@sta.uwi.edu
