UWI Institute of International Relations to hold a benefit concert with a difference

The disastrous impact of the recent earthquake in Haiti and the need to raise funds have prompted the students at The University of the West Indies (UWI) Institute of International Relations (IIR) into action. The result is “Tranblemanntè – Earthquake in Haitian Creole” – a benefit concert with a difference.

Tranblemanntè is an evening of passion, fun and consciousness, hosted on the Greens at IIR (northside), this Saturday 27th February from 6 p.m.

With décor by Buzz Concepts and set design by IIR Concerted Effort, this has all the makings of an edgy, eclectic and engaging event, capturing the essence of students driven with purpose. A new generation of calypsonians in the form of Jervais Caesar, Kizzy Ruiz, Devon Seales will excite you with pulsating rhymths, while poetry by Tyehimba Salandy and Muhammad Muwakil will challenge you into action. Mya, a student at the IIR and the initiator of world belly dance day in Trinidad and Tobago, will mesmerise with a performance in the Raqs Sharqi style of oriental dance. The Caribbean Academy of Fashion and Design and Ecliff Elie Ltd will showcase designs that are classic but defiantly Caribbean.

Reserved seating is priced at $100. Part proceeds will go to the UWI for Haiti fund. To make reservations and find out more, please contact IIR Secretariat (Ekana or Lucia) at (868) 662 2002 ext. 3235.
