UWI IGDS hosts Special Lunchtime Seminar for International Women’s Day 2010

In celebration of International Women’s Day, which is on Monday 8th March, 2010, The University of the West Indies (UWI) Institute of Gender and Development Studies (IGDS) will host a special Lunchtime Seminar, titled “From One to Many: Techno-Politics, Revolution and the Art of the Possible,” on Thursday 11th March, 2010 at the Centre for Language Learning (CLL) Main Auditorium, UWI St Augustine from 12 noon to 2 p.m.

Dr Alexis De Veaux, from the Department of Global Gender Studies in the State Universities at New York (SUNY) at Buffalo, will deliver the feature presentation, themed “Audre Lorde and the Longing for Home(land)”. Dr De Veaux is also expected to sign copies of her book, “Warrior Poet: A Biography of Audre Lorde.”

The IGDS Seminar programme includes a digital montage on International Women’s Day, and a session moderated by Dr. Gabrielle Jamela Hosein, titled “A Revolution is a Way of Life.” Participants will also view a presentation by Sunitha Krishnan, titled “Impassioned by Silence: Where do I Begin?” from a TED Lecture delivered in November 2009. Dr. Piya Pangsapa Head of the IGDS will field audience feedback in a Question & Answer immediately following.
