A Golden Anniversary for UWI

It is being called “50–The Jubilee”, a week of celebrations to mark the fiftieth anniversary of The University of the West Indies (UWI) St Augustine Campus in Trinidad and Tobago. The week runs from Sunday October 10th to Sunday October 17th, 2010 and includes a range of events.

On Sunday October 10th, the St Augustine Campus will launch its 50th Anniversary Celebrations with an Inter-Faith Service on the Campus at 10 am. Celebrations will continue on Monday 11th October at 6pm, with a Panel Discussion titled “The Future of the University,” to be held at Daaga Auditorium. On October 12th, the Central Bank Auditorium will host the launch of “From Imperial College to University of the West Indies: A History of the St Augustine Campus, Trinidad and Tobago,” written by Professor Bridget Brereton, UWI Professor of History. Anniversary celebrations will culminate in an all-inclusive fete, “The Gathering,” at the grounds of the St Augustine Campus Principal’s Office on October 17th, from noon to 7pm. These events are open to all UWI staff, students, alumni and the general public. 

The 50th Anniversary Week also includes several other events. A private reception will be hosted by Their Excellencies Professor George Maxwell Richards and Dr Jean Ramjohn-Richards on October 13th. The UWI Press will hold its Awards Ceremony at Daaga Auditorium on October 14th, and a special Retirees Recognition Ceremony will be held at the Hilton Trinidad on October 15th.
