Off-season gathering at UWI

For Release Upon Receipt - October 12, 2010

St. Augustine

ST AUGUSTINE, Trinidad And Tobago – Most people will tell you that their university years were the most memorable of their lives. That is why they relish opportunities to reconnect, and it is precisely to provide a space for this that The University of the West Indies (UWI) decided that the most fitting way to close its week of 50th anniversary events was to host an off-season fete, the Gathering.

The Gathering carries the hallmarks of the premier UWI Fete at Carnival – it is an all-inclusive party with top-class entertainment at the grounds of the Campus Principal – but its sentiment is wrapped more tightly around embracing old friends and revisiting precious memories. The week of events began with an interfaith service on October 10, and ends on Sunday October 17, from noon, as the sacred bonds of friendship are renewed – and after 50 years there are many.

Fifty years practically constitute a lifetime, and the Gathering features a literal Memory Lane, photographic moments of UWI growing up, captured with the kind of parental fervour that believes every shot is too precious to miss.

The traditional tasty fare of UWI fetes will be on hand and entertainment will come from Karma with Ravi B, Roy Cape with Blaxx, Gayatones with Oscar B and Birdsong. Tickets are priced at $500 and are available at the Office of the Campus Principal.

For ticket details, please visit UWI Fete on Facebook, the UWI website, or call 484-9574.
