UWI Hosts Christmas Carol Celebration

For Release Upon Receipt - November 22, 2007

St. Augustine

The University of the West Indies, St Augustine Campus will host its annual Festival of Nine Lessons with Carols on Sunday 2nd December, 2007 at 4:00 p.m. and again at 7:00 p.m. at the Learning Resource Centre (LRC). The Festival will be produced and presented by the UWI Festival Arts Chorale and directed by Mr Jessel Murray.

The UWI Festival Arts Chorale, celebrating its seventh year, is most notable for its classical presentation (‘Mozart Celebration’), Broadway productions (‘Fiddler on the Roof’ and ‘Oliver!’), and for its collaborations with the National Sinfonia.

The Chorale will lead the audience in the singing of traditional carols and will also perform traditional features such as Handel’s ‘Hallelujah Chorus’, ‘O Holy Night’; new pieces such as Noel Goemanne’s ‘Cantate Domino’ (‘Sing to the Lord’); and a swing version of ‘Mary Had a Baby’. The prize-winning UWI Festival Steel Ensemble and the Brass Ensemble will supply the accompaniment to complete this festive event.

Admission for the Festival of Nine Lessons with Carols is free, although seating is limited. Tickets are available at the UWI Centre for Creative and Festival Arts on Agostini Street or Gordon Street, St Augustine.
