The Department of Food Production, Faculty of Science and Agriculture at the St. Augustine Campus of The University of the West Indies (UWI) will host its first Open Day event on Friday 4th February, 2011.
The event, which targets secondary school students from Forms 3 to 6, is themed ‘Agriculture: A Viable Option’ and will seek to provide the students with an opportunity to learn more about the Department’s programmes and about University life. The Open Day will feature a number of exciting displays and hands-on activities which promise to engage the students and pique their curiosity where agricultural viability is concerned.

About the Department of Food Production
The Department of Food Production is a vibrant and enthusiastic Department tackling research issues in agriculture, environment and earth systems. It was formed in 1996 as a result of a merger of the Faculties of Agriculture and Natural Science. The current list of expertise in the Department includes Agricultural Scientists (specialists in Soils, Crops, Animal and Food Sciences, Postharvest technology and Agronomy), Geographers, a Biosystems Engineer and a Biostatistician. The vision for the Department is that it will become a leader in Tropical Agriculture and Environmental teaching and research, and will broaden expertise in the area of Natural Resources and Earth Systems.
