UWI prepares for WOW 2011

For Release Upon Receipt - February 3, 2011

St. Augustine

The World of Work (WOW) programme returns to the St. Augustine Campus of The University of the West Indies (UWI), on February 3rd, 2011, and will take place until March 18th, at the UWI Sport and Physical Education Centre (SPEC).

UWI partners with Republic Bank Ltd once again to host WOW which, since its inception over ten years ago, has provided an increasing number of UWI students with the right tools for long-term success in the globalised work environment. Republic Bank recognises the inexorable drive within our nation’s youth to push boundaries and in the process, redefine them, and that they will need assistance if their maturation process is to be holistic. The Bank believes in WOW’s worth in adding significant value towards developing the career potential of students who will be graduating in the immediate future.

Each component of the WOW 2011 programme is specifically intended to develop a targeted skill set. The Interview Preparation Workshop teaches participants interview skills necessary to impress prospective employers; the WOW Seminar provides advice from leading professionals on Financial Planning, Dressing for Success and Becoming an Entrepreneur; the Mock Interview session allows each student to practice interview skills with real business professionals and gain valuable feedback; and the Recruitment Fair showcases companies and organisations from a variety of fields who will recruit students for either vacation or graduate employment. The Recruitment Fair will take place during the final two days of WOW 2011, with one day designated to all returning students and the other, restricted to final-year, graduating students.

This year, WOW takes it a step further by introducing a new tool to its set – a Networking Workshop, aimed at introducing students to socializing for business success. This session will feature presentations by Judette Coward-Puglisi, President, International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) T&T, who will tell students about “Building your Online Brand,” and Giselle La Ronde West, former Miss World and current Corporate Communications Manager with Angostura Ltd, who will teach students “The art of socializing/networking.”
