Insight into best practices and techniques for obtaining broadcast rights for international sporting events will be addressed at the UWI/FIFA/CIES guest lecture happening at The University of the West Indies, St Augustine Campus on Wednesday 23rd February, 2011.
The lecture, being held at the Engineering Lecture Theatre 1 from 6pm, is hosted by the UWI Department of Management Studies and will feature Mr. Cem Ülkeroğlu, Managing Director of STELIA Sport & Media Ltd. Mr. Ülkeroğlu’s expertise is in the areas of media rights, marketing, sponsorship and event management. In this lecture, he will seek to give a greater understanding of the tendering processes for television and broadcast rights for international sports competitions, as well as shed light on the tools and skills needed to present a winning proposal.
Persons who should find the event useful include presidents and general secretaries of national sporting organizations, Sports Management students, persons employed at the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs, and persons within the media with responsibility for procuring and securing television and broadcast rights for regional and international sporting events.
This guest lecture is facilitated through the existing UWI/FIFA/CIES collaboration, which has also resulted in the establishment of the Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Management. The UWI also offers a Master of Science Degree in Sports Management through the Department of Management Studies.
The Department will continue its efforts to develop sports management capabilities in the country and the region by hosting another public lecture in the area of Spectator Sports Safety and Security in March.
