UWI Hosts public seminar on Bullying, Domestic Violence and Rape

The Department of Behavioural Sciences, Faculty of Social Sciences, The University of the West Indies (UWI), St. Augustine, through the Head of Department, Professor Ann-Marie Bissessar, will be presenting a seminar on Bullying, Domestic Violence and Rape on Thursday 14th April, 2011 from 2-5 pm, at the Faculty of Social Sciences Lounge.

The key presenters include UWI lecturers, Dr. Dianne Williams, Lecturer in Criminology, and Dr. Amar Wahab, Lecturer in Sociology.

Guest presenters and presentations will also include Diana Wyatt-Mahabir, one of the founders of the Coalition for the Rights of the Child, who will discuss ‘The Rights of the Child... Rights and Responsibilities... Are they Recognized in the Caribbean?’ Mr. Glenroy Brassey, of the Second Division Office at Besson Street Police Station, will discuss Issues of Psychological Abuse as it relates to Domestic Violence,’ and Mrs. Lynette Seebaran-Suite, Attorney at Law and Chairperson of Advocates for Safe Parenthood and Improving Reproductive Equity (ASPIRE) will also make a presentation.

This seminar will highlight various aspects of Bullying, Domestic Violence and Rape and how it affects society at various levels, including ethnicity, age and gender. It is free and open to the public.
