UWI to launch BSc in Insurance and Risk Management

The University of the West Indies (UWI) will launch its new Bachelor of Science degree in Insurance and Risk Management on Friday 14th October, 2011, at 11 am, at the Office of the Campus Principal.

This programme is offered through The University’s Faculty of Social Sciences.

Developed in partnership with the Trinidad and Tobago Insurance Institute (TTII) and the local insurance industry, it aims to provide students with the necessary knowledge of the industry as well as analytical and problem-solving skills for addressing complex issues in the insurance sector; leadership skills to meet local, regional and global challenges that may arise; and the academic foundation to pursue postgraduate studies in a related discipline.

The launch will begin with a welcome address by Dr. Hamid Ghany, Dean of The UWI’s Faculty of Social Sciences, and greetings by Senator the Honorable Fazal Karim, Minister of Science, Technology and Tertiary Education. Mr. Errol Simms, Deputy Dean of Planning and Programming at the Faculty of Social Sciences, will give an overview of the programme. Also providing remarks at the launch will be Professor Clement Sankat, Pro Vice Chancellor and St. Augustine Campus Principal; Professor Surendra Arjoon, Head of the Department of Management Studies; and Mr. Douglas Camacho, Chairman of the Board of Governors, TTII.

The TTII will present a cheque to The UWI. A question and answer session with members of the media will follow and Dr. Hamid Ghany will close the event.
