St. Augustine

The University of the West Indies (UWI), St. Augustine Campus, announces its official 2012 orientation programme carded for August 29th, August 30th and September 1st, 2012, at the UWI Sports and Physical Education Centre (SPEC).

Rebranded as the First Year Experience (FYE) and themed MY UWI L.I.F.E., this year’s edition encourages students to embrace the tenets of L.I.F.E. – Learn, Imagine, Focus, Engage – which will help them succeed throughout their academic careers.

The first event UWI Life Support will be held on Wednesday 29th August, from 6pm to 8pm, and is geared toward the parents, guardians and spouses of all first-year students. Since their student’s success relies on a strong support system, this event which includes a Q&A segment with the Campus management team, is meant to establish a preliminary relationship between the support network and The University, and equip them to better assist their students as they make the transition into university life.

All first-year and first-time undergraduate students will be welcomed to the Campus at UWI Life Student, on Thursday 30th August, from 9am to 3pm. This all-day event, aims to help students make a smooth changeover from secondary school to university life. The day will be packed with various activities, games, giveaways and live entertainment and opportunities to meet the Principal, Deputy Principal and Deans as well as interact with representatives in the Information Village to learn about support services, mentorship programmes and career opportunities.

UWI Life 2012 ends with a new instalment, UWI Life Prime – a combination of the former UWI Life Extension and UWI Life Postgraduate programmes. This event targets first-year postgraduate and first-year part-time, evening and mature undergraduate students and is carded for Saturday 1st September, from 11am-1pm. UWI Life Prime will provide the more matured students with the necessary tools to balance work, family and academics, help them shift from the work arena to student life.
