Welcome to the Office of Institutional Advancement and Internationalisation (OIAI)
The OIAI fosters partnerships with premier institutions within the Caribbean and around the world to enhance UWI’s standing as a world class institution. In tandem with UWI’s vision of becoming a leading global university centred in the Caribbean, OIAI has developed meaningful engagements with various stakeholders and has fostered interactions and collaborations in areas that benefit our students, staff and stakeholders.Our Mission and vision embodies UWI strategic thrusts of promoting the UWI brand name regionally and internationally as we raise the awareness of our student and staff. Additionally, OIAI engages UWI faculties and Centres to enhance processing services that facilities various activities on the St Augustine Campus.
Meet the Director (Interim)
Mr. Julian Henry is an Alumnus of the University of the West Indies St. Augustine with a Bachelors in Agribusiness Management and a Masters (with Distinction) in Marketing Management from The UWI St. Augustine. He has over 25 years experience in managing entreprise development programmes in the Caribbean Region including managing SME finance companies, business start-up accelerators and, through programme engagement, has impacted hundreds of innovators, entrepreneurs and start-up companies within the region across a broad mix of sectors including agri-business, light manufacturing, the creatives sector, services sector and innovative technologies.
As the Interim Director of the OIAI, Mr. Henry leads a team that is dedicated to facilitating exchange opportunities with The UWISTA’s foreign university partners and promoting beneficial engagements with our UWI Alumni whilst providing strategic support to several innovation projects and commercially oriented initiatives from faculty and departments of The UWI. When not proffesionally engaged, Mr. Henry dedicates his spare time in the pursuit of sporting excellence and can often be seen jogging around the UWI Campus after working hours. He has represented Trinidad and Tobago in regional tournaments in the sport of Squash and in Archery (regional developmental tournament) and is also a UK certified level-2 squash coach.
The OIAI comprises five independent units:

International Office: Promotes and enhances international collaborations, mobility, best practices and opportunities for growth & development

Commercialisation: Responsible for identifying and leveraging assets for commercial viability (physical and human)

Fundraising: Establishes a philanthropic capability for the Campus to solicit and obtain gifts for the Campus from donors, graduates, private and public sector diaspora etc.

Alumni Affairs: Establishes and maintains effective relationships between graduates and their Alma Mater

Transformational Projects: Responsible for identifying and managing major transformational projects (Campus-wide) including fast-tracking the establishment of new Campuses, enhancing profitability of Campus businesses (IT Store, Bookshop, Multimedia Production Center), creating new opportunities for growth and development
