Intellectual Property

According to World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Intellectual property (IP) refers to creations of the mind: inventions, literary and artistic works, and symbols, names, images, and designs used in commerce. Although intellectual property is intangible, it is recognized as personal property that can be sold and traded like other forms of property. The concept of intellectual property is usually taken to cover specific rights relating to:

  • Patents
  • Integrated circuit designs
  • Plant breeders’ rights
  • Trade marks
  • Industrial designs
  • Geographical indications
  • Trade secrets (or undisclosed information)
  • Copyright and rights related to copyright (such as rights of performers, producers and broadcasters)
