Useful tips for Inventors

Lab notebooks: Good record-keeping is important.  You should use your lab notebooks to record your ideas and details of your experiments and inventions.  Remember to date your entries.  The notebooks should be signed by someone who understands the technology, other than the inventor.

Disclosure: If you publish details of your invention, you cannot later obtain a patent for that invention.  This includes publication in a journal, at a conference or on the internet.   A poster presentation counts as public disclosure.
