{"id":231,"date":"2024-03-19T14:43:02","date_gmt":"2024-03-19T18:43:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sta.uwi.edu\/principal\/?p=231"},"modified":"2026-06-23T13:28:18","modified_gmt":"2026-06-23T17:28:18","slug":"moruga-tableland-community-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sta.uwi.edu\/principal\/moruga-tableland-community-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Moruga\/Tableland Community Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Campus received an invitation from the Member of Parliament for Moruga\/Tableland, Ms Michelle Benjamin, to participate in the Moruga\/Tableland Community Day on March 19<sup>th<\/sup>, 2024, at the Lengua Islamia T.I.A. Primary School.\u00a0 We were pleased to accept this gracious invitation that perfectly aligns with our University\u2019s Triple A Strategy to extend our outreach to rural communities and broaden Access and opportunities for all citizens to receive quality tertiary education. This represented another opportunity for the Campus to move research from the classrooms and labs to the local communities, where a diverse range of innovative programmes and initiatives were showcased.<\/p>\n<p>Seven Faculties of the Campus, Engineering, Food and Agriculture, Humanities and Education, Medical Sciences, Social Sciences, Science and Technology, and Sport, were present at the event. The Campus proudly shared samples of various products, from the University Field Station (UFS), high-quality chilled milk to limited samples of Biophyt 1.0, an innovative organic pesticide that provides a biological alternative to hazardous pesticides and enhances plant growth.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the Campus provided various health services, including health talks and blood pressure testing.
