Every institution wants to be accredited. And for a student-centric institution, committed to continuous growth and development, it goes without saying that when the Accreditation Council of T&T (ACTT) visited The UWI in 2012 to examine institutional effectiveness, anticipation was high. The ACTT granted UWI 5 years to make improvements in specific areas. On July 27, the Institutional Effectiveness Programme of the Office of the Campus Principal, headed by Dr. Eduardo Ali, hosted the handover ceremony of the report on a focused site visit that was conducted at the Campus on April 10 this year. The report was part of ACTT’smid-term review, conducted to ensure that we are forging ahead, continuing to perform at high standards and do the work that we set out to do. The Evaluation Team referred to us as a “high quality institution,” noting that we continue to secure significant capital investment despite the impact of the global economic crisis; that despite difficulties in recruitment, we possess a high calibre of teaching and research staff at all levels; and the team was particularly encouraged by the general acceptance of the positive role played by quality assurance on the Campus: they observed steady growth in the acceptance of a culture of active engagement with quality assurance activities.
