After the serious work of the University Council Meeting, administrators and scholars from UWI’s Regional HQ and UWI St Augustine, got down to even more serious business—cricket. On May 1, the West Indies Group of University Teachers (WIGUT), union for The UWI’s academic and professional staff, hosted the “May Day Cricket Mixmatch: The Boundary Bash”, 15 overs of intense (but friendly) wind ball cricket at the campus’s Sir Frank Worrell Cricket Field.

The teams, Bouncers (in purple) vs Yorkers (in green), bolstered by strong support in the vice-captain positions by UWI Vice-Chancellor Sir Hilary Beckles and UWI Chancellor Dodridge Miller respectively, vied for the challenge trophy and, according to WIGUT President Dr Indira Rampersad, “bragging rights”.

“This is serious business!” she affirmed.

UWI St Augustine Campus Principal Professor Rose-Marie Antoine opened the match and, despite the intense and high-level display of competition, a wonderful evening was had by competitors, officials from the St Augustine Academy of Sport, and spectators.
