This October, cricket returned to the St Augustine campus, and UWI teams showed their skill. The UWI T20 All Stars won the men’s exhibition, and the UWI Women’s Cricket Club Invitational (WCCI) won the women’s at the UWI-75 Cricket Fest.
UWI-75 Cricket Fest, held on October 7 at the St Augustine campus, was one of several activities hosted by the university this year to celebrate the establishment of The UWI in 1948. The exhibition matches took place at UWI St Augustine’s iconic Sir Frank Worrell Cricket Ground at the Sports and Physical Education Centre (SPEC).
UWI WCCI won by four wickets against Phoenix Women’s Club in the women’s final. The home team finished with 120 runs for 6 wickets in 18.6 overs. After the match, UWI WCCI’s Shalini Samaroo received the Special Bowling Award, Phoenix’s Britney Cooper the Special Fielding Award, and UWI WCCI’s Stacy-Ann King received both the Biggest Six and Player of the Match awards.
On the men’s side, UWI T20 All Stars bested UWI Men’s Invitational by 56 runs. The T20 All Stars won with a convincing victory of 233 runs for 5 wickets in 20 overs. UWI T20 All Stars’ Tion Webster was named Player of the Match, while UWI Men’s Invitational’s Sion Hackett received the Biggest Six Award, Kareem Khan took the Special Bowling Award, and T20 All Stars’ Samuel Felix claimed the Special Fielding Award.
UWI-75 Cricket Fest was hosted by the St Augustine Academy of Sport and sponsored by UNICOM.
