Honeywell Donates UNISIM Design Suite R380 to the Faculty of Engineering at The University of the West Indies

In February 2009, Honeywell Automation and Control Solutions Caribbean Ltd. donated over 100 licenses for its cutting edge process design and simulation software, the UNISIM Design Suite R380, to the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

The Design Suite (screenshot of a Distillation Column shown above) provides a powerful platform for process design and simulation and is a tremendous asset to students of electrical and computer engineering, chemical and process engineering and mechanical and manufacturing engineering.

According to Jason Whitehead, Regional General Manager of Honeywell Process Solutions, "...your students will better understand the principles they learn in class. Among other things, they can play with the column simulation to see how changes in operating conditions impact the product rate and quality, or even environmental issues, learn phase behaviour of a specific system governed by thermodynamic principles, find out whether an existing heat exchanger can meet specific process requirements...etc."

The UNISIM Design Suite R380 facilitates a student experience that is as close to real life as possible, without actually being there. Students are able to better appreciate the relevance of applicable principles and shorten the learning curve when they enter the workplace.
