Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Netherlands Antilles

On May 5, 2008, Minister Maurice Adriaens, the Minister of Transport and Communications of the Netherlands Antilles, visited The University of the West Indies. The purpose of this visit was to draw on the Trinidad and Tobago experience in the crafting of an ICT policy for Curacao, and, in particular, to explore the ways in which UWI is contributing to ICTs in development.

The Minister and his party paid a courtesy call on the Campus Principal and Deputy Principal at the Principal's Office, where they reviewed possibilities for future collaboration. They also met with the Dean of the Engineering Faculty, Professor Brian Copeland.

At an informal meeting hosted by the Head of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, they shared in candid discussions, with invited academic staff of the Faculty of Engineering and other colleagues, on ICT policy development and the University's role in this. They were also provided with information on UWI's diverse use of ICTs.

The Minister was accompanied by:

  • Curt Brunings, Policy Adviser to the Minister;
  • Irving Roosburg, ICT Manager, Curacao;
  • Luelo Girigorie, Economist, Department of Economic Affairs;
  • Shernon Osepa, Policy Adviser, Bureau Telecommunicatie and Post;
