TTNIC

The Trinidad and Tobago Network Information Centre, TTNIC (http://www.nic.tt/), the registrar of the Trinidad and Tobago's .tt country code Top Level Domain (ccTLD), has had a long relationship with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Over the years, TTNIC has supported the Department through the sponsorship of professional posts. The first TTNIC sponsored Development Engineer extended TTNIC's ccTLD integrated software solution for domain registry management. Functions include domain registration, billing, domain database maintenance, domain renewal and zone file management. This system forms the registration and backend management facility of TTNIC's edu.tt hosting service (accessible at www.edu.tt). This service, also implemented by the Department, provides free .edu.tt domain names and web hosting to educational organizations in Trinidad and Tobago.

More recently, TTNIC has sponsored a research assistant to support the Department's Caribbean ICT Research Programme, CIRP. Thematic threads of CIRP include Mobile Applications for Development of the Small Scale Fisheries Industry ("mFisheries"), Caribbean Information Societies Measurement Initiative and Caribbean Innovators Challenge: Mobile Applications for Development.

TTNIC and Departmental staff often collaborate on regional events in the telecommunications sector.
