HANDBOOKS

Download the Faculty UG Handbook (PDF) and the Postgraduate Information Guide (PDF). Keep a copy of the Handbook for your year of entry/registration as they contain valuable information pertaining to the regulations governing your programmes of study.

UWI ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT

1) Students should submit the official UWI Accountability Statement with all credit assignments.

RECOMMENDED STYLE GUIDES

2) The only recommended style for School of Humanities (SOH) undergraduate students is the MLA Style. SOH postgraduate students may use either MLA or Turabian (modelled on the Chicago Manual of Style). Within the Faculty, the APA style is only for School of Education (SOE) students. Visit the Humanities Division of the Main Library for more information. Postgraduates should also download the thesis guide. Click on Research Guides on the Main Library's page and go to the Humanities link for more information on Digital Resources, Finding Sources, Evaluating Sources, Using Sources, MLA, Chicago, and Avoiding Plagiarism.

SPELLING

3) Only Commonwealth (aka British) spelling is permitted at The University of the West Indies. American (US) and Canadian spelling are not allowed. Visit the Oxford English Dictionary page for more information. In Word, the spell checker can be changed to English (T&T) or English (Caribbean) by going to Tools > Language > Set Language > English (T&T) or (Caribbean).

ACADEMIC PRIZES

These prizes are awarded to the students who acquire distinction and excellence on completion of the first, second and third levels of the degree programme and to the best performances in the University /Foundation courses. Departments award various prizes for exemplary performance in the examinations. See page 21 of the FHE Undergraduate Information Guide for a general overview, or visit each Section of our Department to find out more about discipline-specific prizes.
