LINGUISTICS STAFF

Who is a Linguist?

Linguists don't learn languages (though we often do some language learning); linguists learn ABOUT languages, of which there are some 6,909. Polyglots are the professional language learners/users (also called linguists) who spend their time and energy learning one or more languages.

Linguists (of the discipline of linguistics) are professional language analysts or language scientists (once called "linguisticians"), who dabble in many languages and focus on their structure and usage in society around the world.
