The UWI Film Programme
Film is an interdisciplinary academic field that focuses on the development and practice of motion pictures arts. It draws on various disciplines such as history, sociology, psychology, aesthetics, and media studies to understand the social, cultural, and historical significance that film has on societies around the world. A degree in film provides students with a comprehensive education and training in the various aspects of movies and cinema. The University of the West Indies is dedicated to the production and study of film for the people of the Caribbean and beyond. The UWI Film Programme teaches students about the techniques and styles used in filmmaking, the history of cinema, film theory and criticism, and the ways in which films affect and shape society. Through our unique course of study, students will learn the technical aspects of filmmaking, such as cinematography, sound design, editing, and special effects. They will also develop their critical thinking and analytical skills, in order to better understand and evaluate the role of film in society and culture.
The UWI Film Programme offers two undergraduate degrees in the study and practice of film: The Bachelor of Arts in Film Production and the Bachelor of Arts in Film Studies.
