Our Symposium

The Inaugural UWI FMS Symposium on Nanomedicine will be held in the Faculty of Medical Sciences, U.W.I. on October 15th, 2017. The objective of the symposium is to introduce the concept of nanotechnology in medical practice and research. The theme of the conference is Nanomedicines purpose, potential & passion in the Caribbean context.

Nanomedicine is the medical application of nanomaterials. Nanomedicine is expected, in the near future, to deliver radical changes in the way we diagnose and treat diseases. It is a multidisciplinary field in continuous evolution and takes in account all sectors of the healthcare industry, engineers and natural scientist. Nanomedicine has the potential of developing new treatments, new diagnostic tools and new mechanisms of drug delivery.

This symposium seeks to set the foundation for Nanomedicines awareness and potential application in the Caribbean setting. It will define the purpose (mission) of nanomedicine research, explain the potential of nanomedicines and seek to develop a passion for new cadre of nanomedicine researcher at the University and the wider Caribbean.
