The Faculty of Medical Sciences offers diploma, M.Sc., M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes in a wide range of disciplines within the preclinical, paraclinical and clinical sciences, along with professional training (DM programmes) in numerous clinical specialties. Newly introduced programmes include an M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics, Human Nutrition, and Neuroscience, respectively, and the M.Sc. in Advanced Nursing. Other programmes currently in development include M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes in Pharmaceutical Sciences, DM in Haematology/Oncology, and a Master’s in Public Health. While the programmes currently on offer originate from the schools of medicine, veterinary medicine and advanced nursing education, respectively, collaborative research between all schools, including the schools of dentistry and pharmacy is encouraged. New initiatives aimed at enhancing the experiences of our graduate students include a graduate student orientation programme and research workshops.

School of Advanced Nursing Education

MSc in Advanced Nursing
This new programme is designed to meet the critical need for leaders, teachers and advanced clinicians in nursing. The programme is structured around the major components of theory, research and clinical practice. The concepts of leadership, critical thinking, decision-making, and planned change are integrated throughout the curriculum. The graduate nursing student at the School of Advanced Nursing will develop specific competencies through refinement of existing professional skills, expansion of the knowledge base for practice, and development of advanced proficiencies in particular areas of practice. The programme is offered full time and part time in modular format and includes different forms of distance education, print, media, teleconference, Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI), mentoring and preceptor practicum.

School of Veterinary Medicine

MPhil and PhD in Veterinary Sciences
The School of Veterinary Sciences offers Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees in the following areas: veterinary anatomy, veterinary physiology, veterinary microbiology, veterinary public health, veterinary pathology, veterinary parasitology and veterinary clinical medicine. The degree programmes primarily comprise research and guided studies, with limited coursework requirements, where necessary. As a postgraduate student in the School of Veterinary Medicine, it is possible to do basic, applied and clinical research. [more information]
