Project Details:

Title: To assess the role of water relations in determining vase-life of Anthurium andraeanum (Hort.) cultivars.

Supervisor: Dr. Aidan Farrell

Co-Supervisor: Dr. Elibox

Advisor: Prof. Umaharan

By examining how control of water relations varies between anthurium cultivars, we can determine strategies to enhance vase-life.  A better understanding of the processes involved could lead to the development of screening methods that would allow for the selection of cultivars with longer vase-lives. Screening methods will also help us to characterize the genetic control of vase life. This work will provide new information with regards to which physiological traits and which genetic factors contribute to genotypic variation in vase-life. The knowledge will be used in breeding programmes to develop cultivars that combine longer vase-live with other desirable traits.
