Mounting Plants for the
Herbarium
Mounting the specimens involves either
strapping or gluing the specimens onto
durable paper where it becomes a permanent
record (see diagram). Mounting paper is
a special grade of paper with a high rag
content. This paper is ordered from special
manufacturers who supply large herbaria
in the USA, UK and certain European countries.
Contact with any of the well established
herbaria for assistance in finding a supplier
is advisable.
A mounted specimen is not complete without
a label containing all the necessary information
about the collecton. It is customary for
the labels to be gummed at the bottom
right hand corner of the herbarium sheet.
