LECTURER IN GENDER AND DEVELOPMENT STUDIES

Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate must possess a Ph.D. in Gender/Women’s Studies or a related field with substantial teaching, research and publications in Gender/Women’s Studies and specialization in one or more of the following areas:

 

  • Feminist Theory and Methodology;
  • Gender and Sexualities;
  • Gender and Development;
  • Gender and Masculinities;
  • Gender, Science and Technology;
  • Gender and Media,
  • Feminist Economics

 

Candidates should also have:

 

  • considerable experience in teaching and curriculum development at the tertiary level
  • relevant postdoctoral research experience,
  • graduate supervision and teaching experience in Gender/Women’s Studies – with a good knowledge of the social and economic background of the region as well as an appreciation of gender issues in the Caribbean.

 

 

Special Responsibilities

 

  • Participating in administration, strategic planning and management of teaching, curricula development and outreach programmes
  • Teaching interdisciplinary Gender courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels;
  • Supervising research work of candidates reading for M.Sc., M.Phil., and Ph.D. Degrees in Gender and Development and Interdisciplinary Gender Studies;
  • Participating in the research programmes of the IGDS;
  • Participating in activism and outreach activities of IGDS.

 

 

Personal Attributes

The Department places high priority on individuals of integrity who can work well in a team and student friendly environment. Candidates should also possess good communication and interpersonal skills. A good command of both oral and written English is essential. Candidates must also:

 

  • Have strong pedagogical skills in design, delivery and assessment of graduate level courses
  • Have strong coordination, management and leadership skills with a proven record of commitment to ensuring collegial staff relations
  • Have a student-centered approach to education
  • Be willing to participate in community engagement activities
  • Be able to multitask
