Librarian, Special Collections (Head)

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for the post of Librarian, Special Collections (Head), in the Sidney Martin Library (SML), at The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, Barbados:




  • A Master’s Degree in Library/Information Science or other relevant area of studies, including coursework in archival administration, collection management, preservation administration, and/or conservation.
  • Passionate about book history and archival administration, and eager to exploit the potential of special collections housed at teaching institutions
  • A minimum of six years of library experience, including staff supervision and budget management, and including at least three years working in special collections
  • Experience developing digital and print collections and working with EAD, MARC, LCSH, and other relevant standards
  • Experience with grant writing and donor relations
  • Understanding of copyright issues and use policies related to special collections materials


Preferred qualifications:


  • Second advanced degree in history, Caribbean studies, language and literature or other relevant field
  • Certificate in archives or records management
  • University teaching experience
  • Experience providing innovative public services
