Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate must possess a Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related discipline, considerable experience in teaching at the tertiary level and relevant postdoctoral research experience. Candidates must also have a strong record of original research and peer reviewed publications, a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship and service and a proven track record in one or more of the following areas of specialization:


  • Biomechanics (Human Movement Science and Rehabilitation)
  • Environmental Physics
  • Materials Science
  • Renewable Energy


Further consideration will be given to candidates possessing:


  • Experience in teaching Physics at the undergraduate level
  • Relevance of research to the Caribbean region
  • A record of successfully supervising Ph.D. students
  • Certification in tertiary education


Recent Ph.D. graduates are also encouraged to apply. Applicants are asked to include statements on teaching and research interests.


Special Responsibilities


  • Conducting research and making significant contribution to the Department’s research output in peer reviewed publications;
  • Undertaking appropriate teaching and administrative load at the undergraduate/postgraduate levels;
  • Mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate research students;
  • Participating in curriculum development and interdisciplinary collaboration activities;
  • Actively participate in student advising;
  • Providing Department, Faculty, University and professional service;
  • Applying for grants and developing an independent, externally-funded research program;
  • Conducting short workshops in area of expertise



Personal Attributes

The Department places high priority on individuals of integrity and who can work well in a team and student friendly environment. Candidates should also possess good communication and interpersonal skills. A good command of both oral and written English is essential. Candidates must also be:


  • Able to demonstrate good leadership skills, innovation, commitment and enthusiasm 
  • Able to interact positively with support and academic staff within the Department and the University as well as interface with relevant industry
  • Willing to undergo necessary training
