Overview
The Marketing & Communications Office
A central office was established to be responsible for "Marketing & Communications" in April 2002. This office has as its main role the core marketing and communications function, i.e. Integrated Marketing & Communications for the university. Thus, the office co-ordinates and/or facilitates the development and implementation of integrated marketing strategies for the campus.
The Functions of the office include:
The Integrated Marketing Function
The Integrated Marketing Function essentially involves ensuring the proper targeting and development of marketing strategies and programmes. The use of the word 'integrated' is to emphasise the all-encompassing role that marketing must play in the strategic decision-making process.
The office works with all constituents to ensure that market strategies support the overall strategic objectives of the university. This close association ensures that there is vertical and horizontal integration of goals and objectives and therefore strategies are developed and implemented within the parameters of the institutional mission, vision and strategic plan.
The marketing functions currently involve:
- Marketing Research
- Strategic Marketing
The Integrated Communications Function
The Integrated Communications function draws on market research and takes guidance from the strategic goals and objectives, again to ensure proper targeting of developed programming. As such, the office is essentially the clearinghouse for internal and external communications to ensure consistency of quality and messages so that the institutional image is maintained.
The communications functions currently involve:
- Promotion (Advertising, Publications and Special Events)
- Media Relations
- Corporate and Internal Communication
- Student Recruitment
